Things to Do in Nhatrang

Religious, historical and architectural treasures constitute the main entries on a list of must-sees for the city of Nha Trang with the Po Nagar Cham Towers arguably the most interesting place to visit.

Long Son Pagoda
This is the largest pagoda in the city and is famous for its white Buddha statue which sits a lofty 24 metres high and has come to be an important symbol of Nha Trang. Visitors are invited to climb the extensive number of stairs to the top of the pagoda, although a sign advises those with medical conditions to be wary of doing so. Once at the top, the entire city can be seen from a bird’s eye perspective making the lengthy climb, all the more rewarding.

Nha Trang Cathedral
This working religious facility which provides worshipping space for the city’s Christian population is situated just west of the city centre and easily reachable by local transportation means. It’s an impressive structure that took over a decade to complete and includes among its most noticeable features, a splendid gothic spire. Visitors are permitted to enter the cathedral provided there are no services taking place.

Po Nagar Cham Towers
Also known as Thap Ba Po Nagar, the four Po Nagar Cham Towers are part of eight that were originally built between the 8th and 13th centuries, each being dedicated to a different deity. The largest of the remaining towers was constructed in honour of the Goddess Mother Po Nagar hence the name of the site. The other towers are dedicated to Cri Cambhu, Sandhaka and Ganesh respectively. Besides being architectural treasures, the towers have great historical significance.

Xom Bong Bridge
Located at the northern end of the city, the Xom Bong Bridge provides access to the Po Nagar Cham Towers and is one of Nha Trang’s more noteworthy pieces of engineering. From the bridge you can peer down and get some good views of the local fishing operations.

Top Things to Do

Go scuba diving. Nha Trang is on the up as a diving destination, quickly getting a reputation for offering some of the best dive sites in South East Asia. Local tour companies provide the know-how, equipment and means of transportation for organised diving at popular diving points such as Hon Mun, Madonna Rock, Goat Rock, Moray Beach and Electric Nose. Participants can expect to see some interesting species of coral and undersea life.

Sample the local cuisine. Vietnamese food is famous across the world and indeed for good reason; it’s highly tasty, not overly spicy and very healthy. In Nha Trang, there’s no shortage of places to try the local food which is something of a mix of northern and southern influences. For an up-market meal that’s guaranteed to please, head for the restaurants of the city’s reputable hotels such as the Sofitel VinPearl, the Vien Dong or the Ana Mandara.

Visit the That Ba mud baths. Indulge in some genuine relaxation at the That Ba mud baths and hot springs. Take a shower when you first arrive, followed by a long soak in the mud bath then another shower. Next hit the high pressure cold water jets which give you a mild water massage followed by high pressure hot water jets and then into a hot mineral water bath. Finally immerse yourself under the soothing flowing waters of the waterfall before taking a swim in the mineral pool.
